To my son,
First of all, I want to tell you that I wish you all the happiness! And may this happiness extend throughout your life. May you feel it day by day, living in a balanced way, knowing that your freedom ends where other begins, that this is the limit you have to respect.
I want to tell you that there has never been a measure for the love I have for you, or for the feeling of deep realization that fills my soul every time I look at you and feel you close to me. That it is not possible to define in words the pride I have in each of your smiles, in each of your words or in each of your gestures and I’m sure that I will be very proud of the man you will become.
I want you to be my best friend and to accept me as yours. Thank you for always having been the materialization of all my dreams, for having been everything I wanted and much, much more. Every time you hug me it fills me with love; every time you call me and ask me to do something you make me feel like a hero.
I want to ask your forgiveness for all the times I did not have the time or the patience, for the times when you needed me and I wasn’t there. Or for not having laughed more, kissed more, played more, if that was possible because I totally changed my professional and personal life to have the pleasure of being more and more by your side.
I want to tell you that all the choices I made, even the wrong ones and those that went against your will, had the sole purpose of making you someone better than me. That I live to see you healthy and at peace, that nothing in the world is more important than you; that my nightmare is to lose you, to hurt you or to drive you away from me.
I will always give you support and guidance, and because we live in society, rules are necessary for us to have a good relationship. I understand that at your age you don’t know the meaning of life, but the rules I ask you to abide are for your own good and will help you to shape your character, making you a true man.
Know that I will always be here, with open arms and a heart full of love! I will be directing you always, not agreeing with what you are doing wrong and not running away from what I believe, however my truths are not universal, the advice I give you is not always so wise, but be sure that everything I do, I imagined to be true and important for you to become a better person for yourself and for the world.
Life has a strange way of teaching us … And everything you need to know you will learn the moment you meet your child. You will no longer belong to yourself and you will know that love knows no limits or barriers. But because we love so much, we have to learn to say no, to say enough! And this way, once again teaching, if not for love, unfortunately, it will be for the pain – which no father desires to his children. It will hurt you, but it will hurt me much more because I love you far beyond that you can imagine.
With all the love, affection and dedication I’ve always had and I have for you!
From your father, who has always loved you and will always love you.
